Is it common to have a dream that tells us what day we are going to die?

  1. I once got a fortune cookie that said “don’t worry about the future. by this time tomorrow, you will be dead.” No shit. In a Chinese restaurant in Palo Alto, so it’s not like it was one of those joke fortune cookies.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a dream like that, at least I don’t remember one. But ask yourself this: if you were going to die on that day, is there anything you’d do in the meantime that you hadn’t already been planning on doing?

  2. I think that’s a great fortune cookie fortune! Live each day as if it’s your last!

I asked this question for two reasons.

I know that some Lamas sometimes know their day of death. I know that some people dream their day of death. I’ve had this dream. But I never thought about the possibility that it could be a common occurance – one of those things that no one talks about.

The other reason is that I watched ‘The Last King of Scotland’ last night and one of the things about Idi Amin was that he had dreamt the day of his death. And when his cahracter said it in the movie, he said something to the person to whom he was talking to that I say all the time in my head … You can do anything you want to me, I know when I’m going to die, I dreamt it, so I will live until then. No big deal.

And then I got to wondering if this was actually more common than not.

Would I do anything differently with my life the way it is? No there is probably not anything I would do differently if I were going to die tomorrow, but I’m not going to die tomorrow, so I’m not too worried about it :)

  3. that’s creepy! but i would suggest not to think too much about it.. dream is from subconsciousness where random information is stored. It means that whatever info you received from dreams does not necessarily mean “the sign”.

  4. Oh, I don’t think it’s creepy. It’s been a guide for my life. It’s not that I put off things because I think I’ll have time to do them later, but rather, if something doesn’t happen when I want it to, I’m not so concerned as I would be if I didn’t have an inkling of how much time might be left.
