Late last night, while leaving a long senate meeting, I was walking down the steps in the Nebraska Union. I pulled my hat out of my coat pocket and out with it came my coin purse, which promptly hit the landing and spilled coins everywhere. Without hesitation, two people came to help me pick up the change. One young man even put down his cell phone and ran half way up the stairs to help gather what couldn’t have been more than two dollars in pennies, nickles, and quarters. I’m siting this post because it is the complete opposite of the one I wrote this morning. Maybe I need to move to Nebraska?

I do have to put a word in for the house where I have a spare room to use in Berkeley. This house person has been very nice to me, even though it’s kind of an orphanage for strays between me and the dog both just showing up here (at different times).

A good house guest can be a blessing – someone to talk to who keeps the place from feeling empty, but doesn’t get in your face and doesn’t leave dirty dishes in the sink.

She loves that I do the dishes every evening :) I think she does wish I would go off and housesit more, or at least visit my friends in Tucson once in awhile :)
People are really nice in Tucson too. You really couldn’t pick a worse place to try to live the way you live than Berkeley. Not that people aren’t nice there – it’s just so expensive, and people tend not to have time to be nice to you.
