Dharma happens everyday …
Once upon a time I was looking for a studio and someone offered to look for a shared space with me. When she asked me about my work habits and what I’m like to be around, I made up a list. CrankyBuddhist just appeared out of nowhere and I wrote it down, thinking that I would get a big question mark back in the email. But when the email came back, she simply wrote,
And cranky buddhist is beautiful – cracked me up. – RJ
CrankyBuddhism is about having the ability to be on the path and still be the person I am, staying grounded in the world that, most of the time, does not make sense. It’s about learning from life’s little dharma lessons on a moment by moment basis. It’s about understanding that order and chaos exist in the same place – that inner peace doesn’t come without a lot of inner turmoil. It’s about having the ability to call myself out on my own crap, to say what I mean and mean what I say without judgment, and to walk my talk, or at least be aware that I’m not walking my talk. In short, every spiritually political cliche used in the English language since Ghandi.
So, welcome to this little spiritual party of one. Join in if you want. The posts are meant to be the beginning of a discussion carried on through the comment section. Call me on my crap or add your own thoughts by commenting on the posts. You do have to register on this blog to comment and your first post will be moderated (as a form of spam control).

About the Person Behind The Curtain
I first discovered Zen Buddhism at the age of twenty when I picked up The Way of Zen written by Alan Watts. I’ve been reading, questioning, observing, studying, and laughing ever since, by the way of Zen, Hinduism, and Tibetan Buddhism. I am not an expert, far from it, just a very down-to-earth person who reads a lot.
My frustration with going to organized Dharma Talks and listening to stories about meeting tigers in the forest is the energy behind this site. Dharma happens daily, hourly, constantly – learning experiences are everywhere – and the stories to express this are infinite. I want to hear dharma talks on how to get groceries without accruing bad karma in a crowded store.
CrankyBuddhist is not my only web site. I am an artist, writer, photographer, philosopher who can’t be contained by the walls of life let alone the virtual walls in the internet. CrankyBuddhist is only one aspect of who I am. But I hope you enjoy my stories in Life’s Little Dharma.
