First things first …   no comments

I am not even sure that I am a Buddhist.

It’s the ‘I am fill-in-blank’ thing that hangs me up. When I think of what ‘I am fill-in-blank’, I think of myself more as a seeker of wisdom, of enlightenment, a little sponge sopping up the knowledge of the universe. But whatever it is that I am studying or observing in the moment, it is always with the basic concepts of the Buddhist philosophy in the back of my mind.

Buddhism is not a religion, at least not in my mind. It is a way of life and a way of observation, study, and debate. It co-exists with every other subject, including every religion. There is no one to worship, to blame, to give credit to, no one person or thing to evangelize. Oh, other than myself, but then there I go with the ego thing.

And that brings me back to the ‘I am fill-in-blank’, which I have always found so limiting. It’s not so much that I consider myself to be a Buddhist, or that I study Buddhism itself, but that I study the world with the eye of someone who is aware of what the philosophy is about. That’s all. I am aware. And a little bit cranky.

In the beginning …   no comments

This site is beginning on a whim, a notion, a thought. It has no direction, no creed, no influence. It does have intention – to keep focused on the path where my mind walks.
