CrankyBuddhist Business Idea #2 … 2 comments
So, if I learned anything from my hospital experience it was this:
I made my biggest healing leaps this week when three things happened. 1. When I ate healthy organic food – nothing special you know, the miso soup was instant from Trader Joe’s and the yogurt was generic from Whole Foods – 2. I stopped taking my drugs, and 3. when my friends made me laugh. Also, it seems that a little fresh air and keeping a positive attitude helps too.
I don’t have health insurance, which is another topic I’ll probably be ranting about soon, but I swear if there was a healthcare system that focused on keeping the whole body pure and healthy, I’d do my best to be a part of that system. It’s not really about a spiritual belief system, but more about being in touch with the healing process. We’ve made miles of technological headway into the process of surgery, but are still in the dark ages in how to take care of people afterwards.
Imagine going to a hospital where the nurses were educated in meditation, yoga, massage, and healthy living along with emergency services. Where the environment wasn’t so clinical (sterile and clean is a good thing, but clinical is a little off-putting). I’m not talking about spacey, airy-fairy healthcare, but grounded responsible healthcare.
My nurses, bless them dearly because they were wonderful people, had no clue about what I really needed as a patient. Here, take your drugs. What do you mean you don’t want any morphine? Everyone wants morphine (don’t they?). And don’t worry about that Vicodin headache, it will go away …
Food is love. Good food is good love, and along with a nice dose of laughter, and a positive attitude, are the best healers of all.
Gym Din … 2 comments
I love to work out. At this point, you’d never know it by looking at me. I’ve been sitting at my desk in front of my laptop working for the last year and a half. But I’ve been craving a good workout and time in the day for a workout routine. You would think that since I create my own projects and make my own schedule I would be able to do that, but guess what?! …
I really like going to the gym. I like the social aspect of it. But I haven’t been in a long time. I like the meditative aspect of working out, pushing my body, feeling my muscles, breathing, and most of all sweating. Girls aren’t supposed to sweat in public, but I love it.
What I don’t love about the gym is all of the noise and visual distraction. Big screen TVs blasting over the hum of the machines are my biggest pet peeve about gyms these days. They are usually placed in the very center of the sight line of every treadmill, stairmaster, stationary bike, and rowing machine in the room. There never seems to be a way to get away from them. I’ve tried a number of different gyms in the area and they are all the same. If I wanted to watch TV, I would stay at home.
So, here’s a new business concept. Gyms that are run like yoga studios. No rules other than it’s a TV and earbud free quiet workout place where people can get some exercise for their body and mind at the same time.
Let me know if you have some cash to invest ;)
